(Senior Pastor, Heysham, Lancashire)
I grew up in Moreton on the Wirral and lived with my parents, 2 brothers and 1 sister. I went to church 3 times on a Sunday and sometimes during the week, too. I must have heard the gospel preached most Sundays but it never meant anything to me. I would sing all the hymns but I never had a relationship with God. I was just a spectator. When I reached 16 my life felt very empty. I started to ask a lot of questions such as, "What is life about?" and "Can Jesus change my life?"
One Sunday evening someone brought a message that spoke right into my situation. I don't remember who it was or what the subject of the sermon was but for the first time in my life I felt God leading me to make a decision about the claims of Christ on my life.
That night as I read my old Sunday school Bible in my bedroom God continued to speak to me from Romans 5:8 - "God demonstrated His own love for us in this, while we were still sinners, Christ died for us." I knew that God's love and forgiveness is what I'd been searching for.
I gave my life to Christ and from that night on He has been a wonderful Saviour and Friend to me.
